Museum of Performing Arts

Legislative Councillor Ma Fung Kwok has proposed to the Government the establishment of a Museum of Performing Arts at the West Kowloon Cultural District to record Hong Kong"s eminent history of performing arts. In remembrance of those superstars who have left us, an area will be designated where the public will be able to look back on their dazzling life.

A spokesman for the Home Affairs Bureau however pointed out that there has not been any request to build a memorial hall for these artists. He said the government is willing to seriously consider and study such a proposal from the public. It has been reported that Anita Mui"s mother had submitted a petition in this regard to Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa.

The Chief Executive is considering the construction of a museum where pictures and costumes from movies and stage performances, movies and other precious collections of superstars like Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, Roman Tam, Bruce Li, Danny Chan, Yam Kim Fai and Lam Fung will be displayed. He has instructed the Secretary for Home Affairs Mr Ho Chi Ping to follow up on this.

In view of the above, we are appealing to all fans of Gor Gor to each write a letter to support the establishment of a Museum of Performing Arts where Gor Gor"s precious collections can be displayed in the memorial hall. In your letter please emphasize the following points: i. Apart from Bruce Li, Gor Gor is the most world-renowned artist among those other deceased stars being proposed; therefore, tourists will be attracted to visit the museum because of him;
Gor Gor"s remarkable achievements in performing arts both local and abroad Although the proposed museum is not just only for Gor Gor, we have to show his influence and his international fame by supporting him. Deadline for submission of the proposal is June 19, 2004.
